Support of Advanced Coal Research at United States Colleges and Universities For 35 years through the University Coal Research(UCR) program, the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory have solicited applications from U.S. colleges and universities. Annually, through this Funding Opportunity Announcement, research is sought to advance the science and technology of coal conversion and utilization. These proposals are evaluated by internal and external reviewers from DOE and industry, and the most meritorious proposals are selected for financial assistance under the UCR program.
