Opportunity: Turtle Tracking Tabs

Description

The U.S. Geological Survey, Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center (CFWSC) has a request for minimum requirements for the tags that¿s needed are that some provide location (20 tags) while others provide location + depth (16 tags). The need is project-based, and we have 2 current projects where we need both location and depth, but we need to have flexibility in the size of the tags because we may get juveniles that cannot be tagged with the largest tags. We also need flexibility in programming the tags (i.e., we need to be able to program them once we have them in the field) because on these new projects, we do not yet know which species we may be capturing; we would program a tag differently for a green turtle versus a loggerhead versus a Kemp's ridley. As well, for any adult males captured, we may need to program the tags differently from how we would program them for adult females whom we know more about from decades of tracking studies. All sensors and salt-water switches on the tags (an option for increasing battery life) must be pointed to combat the fouling that occurs in the northern Gulf of Mexico, even if we put anti-fouling paint on the tags themselves as we deploy them. This feature is needed and is a minimum requirement. The Turtle Tracking Tabs are required 10 days after purchase order is received. There are no option periods.
